Sholpan brings to MCE more than 15 years’ extensive leadership and strategic management experience in FMCG and in the power-generation sector. She has broad functional experience including Chairman of the Board, Board Member, Managing Director, Area Manager and Finance Manager. Today Sholpan is an independent consultant and lecturer. She has developed strong expertise in leadership, corporate governance, change management, strategy formulation and implementation, fraud detection and prevention.
Professional background
2009-present: Independent Consultant.
Sholpan’s project-based consulting includes business development, M&A, corporate structuring and fraud detection to privately-owned companies and individuals. She worked on projects with various industries like telecom, infrastructure, mining, oil & gas services, metal processing and real estate development. She serves as a non-executive independent director, member of the board in several Kazakh companies.
2007-2009: Managing Director, Member of the Executive Board at Samruk-Energy.
Sholpan’s role was to set up finance and corporate governance functions at a newly created holding company for state owned power-generation assets. She completed major acquisitions, arranged syndicate financing and direct state financing and guarantees.
2004-2007: Manager Planning and Business Development, EEMA Region at Philip Morris International. Sholpan led cross-functional teams on M&A projects in Middle East and Turkey and market entry projects in Africa and Central Europe. She co-developed regional portfolio, tax, sourcing and pricing strategies for Middle East and Africa.
2002-2003: Area Manager Central Asia at Philip Morris Kazakhstan.
Sholpan managed six domestic markets of Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan) with full brand portfolio, people and P&L responsibility. She reorganized and streamlined operation in all markets, enhanced customer base and profitability growth of the Area.
1995-2002: Financial positions with the increasing responsibility at Philip Morris Kazakhstan.
Sholpan ‘s main tasks were to identify and led various cross-functional projects mainly in manufacturing, procurement and human resources, including start-up of suppliers’ on-shore production, factory overhead base reduction and development of major redundancy program for an affiliate. She led preparation and consolidation of affiliate annual budgets and five-year plans. She led US GAAP affiliate accounting and reporting functions.
Education and qualifications
Sholpan holds a Bachelor’s degree in international economics from Kazakh State Academy of Management. She has been a member of ACCA (Association of Charted Certified Accountants) since 2000 and has completed an executive program at INSEAD (France) in 2005.
Personal
Sholpan is Kazakh and lives in Kazakhstan. She conducts her workshops in Russian and English.
