Reinhard’s professional career spans executive positions in sales, marketing, R&D, business development, country, multi-country and international general management, with global Fortune 500 and privately held companies, including Bayer AG, Novartis AG, Ciba-Geigy AG and SC Johnson, as well as with start-ups, while being based in Europe, the USA, Asia, the Middle East and in Africa for a total of 25 years.
He has extensive experience in Life Sciences and Consumer Goods industries, in Private Public Partnership, Trade Development, Productivity Improvement and Business Development projects in emerging markets, and has been appointed to board positions in Industry Trade Associations and Non-profits. Before his career in international management he has published papers in the fields of Population Biology and Renewable Resources.
Professional background
Reinhard’s international management career started with Ciba-Geigy in Vienna, Austria in Marketing and Sales. After a head office assignment in Basel, Switzerland, in the Middle East / Africa unit he became Sales and Marketing Director, then COO for their pharmaceuticals, med tech, consumer healthcare and plant care businesses in Saudi Arabia, based in Riyadh.
Promoted to Regional General Manager Eastern Africa based in Nairobi he directed the operations in all Eastern African countries, expanding the healthcare businesses more than two-fold in three years.
The next assignment was to Asia, based in Manila, Philippines as Country CEO with additional responsibility for several regional projects, including people development and export production. Reinhard also lead the merger of Ciba-Geigy and Sandoz to Novartis there. Having moved to Bayer he expanded their consumer health and consumer agrochemicals businesses until part of it was sold to SC Johnson, the American Consumer and Healthcare firm. He was appointed Business Development Director, then General Manager and finally moved for them to their US head office near Chicago as Executive Director Enterprise Innovation & Technology Research Development & Engineering.
Since 2008 Reinhard has been active as international management consultant and coach.
Education and qualifications
Reinhard holds M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Vienna, as well as an M.Ag.Econ. degree from the University of Natural Resources & Applied Life Sciences in Vienna, Austria. He was a Harvard University and Fulbright scholar, has participated in Executive Education Programs of Harvard Business School, USA and INSEAD, France and holds professional qualifications in Pharmaceutical, Med Tech and Export consulting. Reinhard is also an MCE Business Mentor, as well as an ICMCI internationally Certified Management Consultant (CMC) and Supervisory Expert (CSE).
Personal
Reinhard is Austrian and lives mostly in Vienna, Austria, but also in Southeast Asia. He coaches and facilitates in English and German.
