Rainer Benz has a long standing business career with ABB Automation GmbH in Germany. He combines his corporate career with occasional faculty activities. His main area of interests and expertise include Corporate Finance, Financial Restructuring, Analysing Financial Performance, Shareholder Value, Strategic Planning with Financial Data as well as Balanced Scorecard, Risk Management and General Business Management.
Professional background
Since 2004 Rainer has been vice president and general manager of ABB Automation Analytical Customer Services in Germany. He is also responsible on a global basis for ABB Analytical Services, serving the automation and process industry.
Prior to his current assignment, Rainer has gained international experience on four continents in the area of general management, finance and accounting, project controlling, and marketing and sales. In general management, Rainer has worked since 1998 in key management positions for ABB in Germany and abroad being responsible for the financial performance of the organisations.
Prior to his general management assignments, Rainer held the position of director finance and accounting for ABB’s Global Business Unit Metering located in the US, as well as division controller for the local organisation.
Rainer has also worked in marketing and sales as marketing director for both the ABB Electricity Metering and the global business unit metering. His responsibilities included direct sales as well as business development for Electricity Metering products to Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East.
Other experiences include international short-term assignments in Sweden, Australia, and Singapore in the areas of finance, accounting, and project management. Rainer started his business career at ABB Germany in various financial and accounting functions.
Since 2005 he has also been adjunct professor, teaching finance, accounting and controlling at the University of Co-operative Education, Mannheim, Germany.

Rainer has an MBA from Campbell University, NC, USA (1998), a Masters degree in Business Administration, Finance and Banking from the University of Mannheim, Germany (1990) and a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from the University of Mannheim, Germany.

Rainer is German and lives in the area of Frankfurt. He conducts his workshops in English and German.
