Guus Pijpers

A thought leader on improving business performance through IT, Guus has special knowledge in people’s information behaviour and assessing the applicability and use of contemporary technologies in organisations. He specialises in the implementation of overall IT- strategies as well as on portal strategies for corporations.

Professional background

Since 2002, Guus has been providing strategy consultancy services and interim assignments with regard to information management in the digital age.
In 2001 Guus was Chief Information Officer (Corporate CIO) with Philips Electronics in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, responsible for delivering business value through IT, knowledge management, and e-business. He was accountable for aligning IT with business goals and business processes, and provided leadership, vision and resources in the knowledge environment.

With Akzo Nobel, active in healthcare products, coatings and chemicals, Guus worked eight years in various senior IT positions:

– Corporate Information Manager (CIO) (1998-2001), responsible for governing the company’s IT policy and facilitating the worldwide e-business activities. He defined Akzo Nobel’s IT policy and strategy, and supported various business units with their IT strategies. He advised the board of management, general and line management on the implementation, use and effects of IT applications in all business processes
– Information Manager (1996-1998), responsible for information management services at the worldwide Chemicals division
– Operational and Internal Auditor, IT-Auditor (1993-1996), responsible for conducting worldwide internal audit services

Prior to joining Akzo Nobel, Guus was a management consultant and IT-auditor with KPMG, Eindhoven (1989-1993), and held various IT functions with Philips Electronics (1984-1989).

Education and qualifications

Guus Pijpers obtained an Executive MBA from the Krannert School of Management, USA and the TiasNimbas Business School, The Netherlands, in 2004 and has a PhD in Management and Computer Science from the University of Technology (NL, 2001). He has a Master of Computer Science (1995) and a MA in Management Science (1993) from the Open University and a teaching degree in Computer Science (1987). Furthermore, Guus is academic advisor at the Institute for Innovation and Information Productivity, USA.


Guus is Dutch and lives in The Netherlands. He conducts his workshops in Dutch and English.
